MULTIPLYING TROUBLES FOR SCAMMERS.

A message from John Doe invites me to obtain lots and lots of cash, (numbers with many zeros given) by joining a chain.  However, to benefit from this money chain I must have a PayPal account, the details of which will have to be divulged etc. etc. etc.

Dear John Doe,
Sorry I cannot answer in any further detail just now.   I am having a vigorous  communication with a Prince in a certain African state.  However, you should be aware that your mail  has been reported as the scam that it is, and sent the way of all scams.

May your troubles multiply.

Well done! I read somewhere of another hero, in the heyday of those Nigerian scams about unclaimed money, who played the same game back on the scammers, very cunningly presenting himself as someone interested, naive but cautious too. He discovered the wonderful patience and elaboration with which they weave their stories and try to discover if the victim is genuine. Only after several weeks did the first request for any funds come about, then quite a modest sum, in order to get some legal advice in advance of the meeting arranged between scammer and victim.

I can't remember the outcome.

Hello Vincent,

I remember hearing something about the patience of a scammer hunter. Like you, I have no recollection of the outcome.

It is likely, that the outcome is the publicising of the knowledge gained, to warn people off.

Sadly, there are some who do fall for it, either by email or by letter.

Hello Mr F,

Any of these ridiculous notifications I get, are reported and go in the direction that spam goes in, not to be seen by me again. Unfortunately, it does not completely stop replacements from appearing.

ZACL,

This is great! I feel I'm not alone.

I used to get spams only in English, but today, I got so many of them in Japanese. But as long as they go to the spam folder, I don't need to see them.

Hello Keiko,

You are definitely not alone.

I had some mails which were in glyphs unknown to me; possibly Japanese or Chinese. They were directed to the spam department. There really is not much point in sending anyone communications, without the ability to understand the language in which it sent, whether it is interesting mail or not. I assume it is not of interest, which, is why it disappears into the cyber trash bucket

They never give up, though, do they? Which means that there must be enough people being sucked in to make it worth their while.

Hi Jennyta,

Your point is in my mind as well. It is a most worrying aspect. As is said, no crime is victimless.

I had one today supposedly from HMRC which is a first! Flighty xx

Hello Mr F,

A first spam or a first HMRC contact?

Actually, there were warnings out about the type of mail you received. The devisers of these crimes, will try anything.
