If there had been a book of condolence here  where I live, I would have signed it in solidarity with all those who have been devastated by atrocities.  Je suis desolee.

It is devastating, and our communities must wrestle with constructive responses. Even so, I wonder again why we are not made more aware of such devastation going on endlessly all around the world. 6 million northern Nigerians displaced from their homes now.

Hello Gilly,

Not only displaced Nigerians, also, Africans, Syrians and horror in Beirut, which we heard about 'in passing'. These events are much farther away from our consciousness, and home territory, till uprooted people arrive closer to our doorstep.

As has been said before, it is the feeling of helplessness we are left with, whatever we as a community try to do to alleviate the stresses on those poor people.

We are not politically in solidarity with many of the issues relating to the dislocation of so many people, for reasons, which the politicians cannot and will not spell out.
