WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?

Why is it, the phone usually rings at an awkward moment?

Either your hands are up to their wrists in water;
You are either in a bath or shower; or,
Just finishing your personal wash, and are dripping wet;
You're at a critical juncture in creating  something in the kitchen; or,
You are pottering with soils etc in the potting shed; or,
You are using the toilet.

Then there is the urgent phone tone in the early morning, or just after you've gone to bed.  Personally, I think those two are the worst.  Receiving a call in our hotel room well after we'd started to doze off, around 11pm, did not create quite the same anxiety levels, just a bit of annoyance at our plans to get a bit more rest being thwarted. We did not have the expectation that we were likely to be contacted for any urgent purpose........yet, we could have been.

LOL, zewt!

I never think five rings is enough. I can never seem to get there in time, and then people think your not picking up on purpose! *shakes head* :)

I let it ring, they can leave a message or try again later! I've had enough of answering it only to find that it's one of these overseas automated messages! Flighty xx

i'll answer the phone if i'm nearby but won't go out of my way to do it especially if i'm otherwise occupied...as it's extremely seldom for me!

Hi Zewt,

Why didn't I think of that one...it opens up all sorts of avenues. :) :)

I think we have seven or eight rings set as a norm for our phone Leah; I am not sure if other people have the same number. Even that number of rings creates similar grumbles to the ones you describe, usually from me, if I don't get there before the answering machine kicks in.

Hi Mr F,

Those rud*y automated messages. Fortunately they do not come too often. I did get one the other night, it turned out to be an important one, would you believe!
xx

Hello Ax,

I got the impression you were a person with many 'occupations'. From what you say, you must be available to answer the phone reasonably often.

i will always find something more interesting and rather less annoying to do than answer a ringing phone!
