SHAKESPEARE.....TO BE OR NOT TO BE?

While watching a programme about the times of the English Tudor monarchs and the bard, William Shakespeare, the academic Doctor, (I believe she is an anthropologist) who was the programme's commentating expert, said of William Shakespeare, "he didn't leave much behind".

That has got to be a saying of the week.

On the other hand, there might be a bunch of conspiracy theorists who would very much agree with what she said.

I've enjoyed watching the series, which she presented. She's a very brainy lady as you'll see if you google her and look at her website. Flighty xx

I do not doubt any of of what you say Mr F, however, this throw away line, would have best been qualified.

I too, I been enjoying the series, even more so the other evening, when 'the' comment gave me an unexpected giggle.

all i can say is that if William Shakespeare didn't leave much behind then there's very little hope for the rest of us!

Hello Zewt,

How are you?

Different impacts between Shakespeare and Hitler, thank heavens.

The commentator probably thought her visual context was sufficient, to be fair to her, but, we all have our faux pas moments. I'm sure she would see the humour in this as well. For me, this was a precious moment of amusement.

Hello Ax,

You've nothing to fear, you will leave at least a volume or two of literary references, exclusively designed by you, that no-one could query as being anyone else's handiwork.

:)

that's very nice of you but i suspect no-one would forward such a theory in future as nobody would want to claim my work as their own!

Authors and craftspeople are always their worst deprecators and their own worst critics. You are obviously of the right mould.

If Shakespeare didn't leave much behind, then I suppose being the greatest writer of world's lingua franca isn't a big deal, considering that there may well be many other better writers on numerous planets in our and other galaxies, who had a much greater impact on the literature of the universe. In that sense she could be right. ;)

Hi MKL,

What a lovely lateral train of thought you have. I wonder, therefore, if, somewhere in the galaxies, there is the possibility of the two souls meeting up to compare what they have done? ^-^
